State authorities arrested an official of the Municipal Police of Mérida identified as Uriel G., because he deceived a civilian, to steal her Nissan March.
It has been found that in his last attempt of theft, Uriel paid for the used car with a check without funds and tried to flee to the state to Campeche, but was arrested in a checkpoint.
The defense lawyers of the public official tried to free his client by paying the victim to desist from the complaint, but they couldn’t come to an agreement, and he was denounced by Macaria José.
For this situation, the control judge Blanca Beatriz Bonilla accused the man for the crime of theft of a motor vehicle, and apparently, the subject is involved in several other cases of auto theft.
The events occurred on Friday August 23rd, when the prosecution seized a red Nissan March vehicle, owned by Macaria José, for which the subject paid with a invalid check.
The transaction took place in the parking lot of the Gran Plaza shopping center, and while Macaria went into the bank to cash the check, Uriel had escaped with he car. The woman was told the check had insufficent funds, and then she realized that her car and the buyer were nowhere to be found, so she immediately called 911.
However, Uriel ended up being arrested at the police checkpoint located in the exit to the Mérida-Campeche highway by agents of the State Investigative Police.
It is noteworthy that this is not the first time this municipal police official steals a vehicle with the same modus operandi, and it has been confirmed that the man is involved in other auto thefts.
