In that sense, the most recent results of the Mexico Peace Index – prepared by the Institute for Economics and Peace – show that the five best ranked states in terms of security are: Yucatán, first, followed by Nuevo León, Aguascalientes, Querétaro and Campeche .

This reinforces the idea that living in Merida is a decision that will benefit the well-being of your family.


Mérida: high educational level

In addition to the security that can be breathed in the streets of Mérida, there are other factors that contribute to raising the standard of living of its inhabitants.

Among these is of course the educational offer. It is possible to find excellent schools at all levels in the “White City”, from kindergarten and elementary school, up to Preparatoria.

As for universities, there are 51 different higher education schools in the state of Yucatán that offer 283 professional careers, according to the State Secretariat of Education (SEE).

In terms of educational and recreational offer, as well as economic growth, the state capital is positioned as a regional and national reference.

Currently, Mérida is among the twenty most important Mexican cities to start a business, according to a ranking prepared by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO).

This shows that living in Merida means being part of one of the fastest growing capitals in the country, featuring the best conditions to open a business.


Mérida: recreation and tourism

A determining factor in deciding to live in Merida is its great diversity in terms of recreation and tourism.

Although the city center alone is of great attraction for local and foreign visitors, when you decide to reside in this city, there are multiple activities available, mostly related to the nature and history of Mexico.

One hour away is the magical town of Izamal, where you can literally climb Maya pyramids, in addition to the convent of San Antonio de Padua, built in 1549, famous for being one of the largest in all Latin America.

Of course, 120 kilometers away you will have the Maya city of Chichen Itza, which Kukulcan temple was recognized in 2007 as one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

Only 45 minutes northwest from Mérida is located the nature reserve of Celestún, where, at sunset, visitors can watch hundreds of pink flamingos, on the banks of the river or near the mangrove areas.

Also in the surroundings of Mérida, is Cuzamá, where you can bathe in the transparent waters of three fantastic cenotes.

Not forgetting the traditional haciendas all around Mérida, many of them recently turned into hotels, spas and recreational centers, such as Xcanatún, Teya, Temozón and Poxilá just to mention a few.

As if that were not enough, living in Mérida implies the proximity to tourist destinations of international importance, such as Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, which are approximately three hours away by car, and Mérida residents can access these destination by bus at very affordable prices.

The capital of Yucatan features an International Airport with great air connectivity to the main cities in Mexico, Houston Texas, Miami Florida, Toronto, Canada and uring certain times of the year, there are flights to Las Vegas, Nevada, Orlando, Florida and to some destinations in Europe.
