Yucatan was positioned in the first quarter of 2019 as the third state nationwide with the highest economic development, with 3.1 percent growth, which is almost eight times higher than the average of all states in the country that was 0.4 percent , according to the Quarterly Index of State Economic Activity (ITAEE).

Only Sinaloa and Nuevo León, with 6.1 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively, ended up above Yucatan, according to the ITAEE study.

The document, prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), shows that the growth in the first quarter of 2019 exceeded that of 2018, which was 2.2 percent, and there was even a positive variation with respect to the fourth quarter of 2018 , which was the first quarter of Mauricio Vila Dosal as governor, of 1.8 percent, which placed him in fourth place at national level with the highest growth, and well above the 0.3 percent average of the 32 states of the country in that period.

According to ITAEE, during the first quarter of 2019, Yucatan was ranked as the second fastest growing state in the areas of commerce, services, restaurants and tourism, with 4.6 percent up. More than double the national average, which was 1.9 percent.

In terms of manufacturing, which represents 50 percent of industrial activities, Yucatan ranks second nationally with a growth of 8 percent, well above the national average, which had a negative figure of -1.6 percent.

Another sector in which Yucatan did well is the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy, water and gas supply through pipelines to the final consumer, which represent 9 percent of the industrial activity, which also contributed to reduce the negative variation caused by the fall of the construction sector. During the first quarter of 2019, these activities registered a growth of 29.5 percent, so Yucatan ranked second nationally among the states with the highest growth, above the average of the remaining 32 Mexican states which was -0.7 %.

The ITAEE report also notes that Yucatan ranked third in the national growth of fishing, agriculture, livestock and, in general, activities related to the farming industry, with 14.5 percentage points, almost three times the 5.9 percent national average. It was only surpassed by Sinaloa and Quintana Roo, with 15 percentage points each.

In this way, Yucatán is positioned as one of the states with the best expectations to generate work and improve the living conditions of local families, economically speaking as well as in terms of safety and security.
