The “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” international airport of Mérida reported a 95 percent occupancy in incoming flight, since last weekend, an average that has been maintained during these days and will represent a significant boost for the tourism sector, sponsored by the activities and events of the 17th World Summit of the Nobel Peace Prizes.
Óscar Carrillo Maldonado, general administrator of the air terminal, said that the flights began with a 90 percent occupancy, but as of last Wednesday September 18th, when the Summit attendees began arriving, the occupancy increased to 95 percent.
He said that this world-class event, as well as the VII National Eucharistic Congress and also the Latin American Women Leaders Summit 2019, will position September as a record month, in the flow of passengers, both national and international.
“People attending the VII National Eucharistic Congress began to arrive on Thursday September 19th, along with a large of number of World Summit of the Nobel Peace Prizes attendees, and next week Mérida will host the Latin American Women Leaders Summit 2019, which will make this month one of the best in history, in terms of number of passengers,” said the official.
He noted that, thanks to these activities, the flow of passengers has remained above seven thousand people per day since last Sunday, so he hoped that this condition will continue till the end of the month.
Carrillo Maldonado celebrated the “wise” decision to turn Mérida into a venue for these type of events, which not only benefits the airport, but the whole tourism sector, and the entire population of the state capital.
