Before dozens of women, Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio shared part of her life story and what her goals were before making the casting for the movie “Roma” that brought her to fame and put her in the eyes of the world.

The young woman said that in the community where she comes from, people continue to tell women that they don’t have to study, “you are women, you are going to get married and your husband will support you,” but she was clear that she did not want that for herself in life, to be married with children at age 15 and, so she prepared herself.

Yalitza claimed that women must fight for what they want, and ignore what people say.

As part of the experiences and messages the Academy Award nominee shared with the audience, she said: “never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something because of your skin color or the way you look, I really wish that racism in this world comes to an end.

The Yalitza conference marked the closing of the Women’s Summit, which was attended by numerous women who filled the Mayamax hall of the Grand Museum of the Maya World.

Aparicio will also participate in the Gente Nueva congress, organized by the Anahuac Mayab University and that will be held on Friday 27 and Saturday 28, September.
