Sabucán Express: the all new Yucatecan digital food delivery platform

The Yucatecan inventiveness continues manifests once again, and now a new digital platform has surged in Tixkokob, Yucatán. This new service similar to the Rappi platform is known as Sabucán Express.

Digital food delivery platforms, such as Rappi or Uber Eats, are supposed to calculate an order’s delivery fee based on the distance between customer and restaurant, and Sabucán Express works under a similar scheme.

It is bascially a personalized home delivery private service in which users call a phone number to place their order, and this is delivered directly to their homes, and works with a “cash on delivery” payment method.

Deliveries are made on motorcycle and the service has become pretty well known and viralized through social networks.

The word sabucán, which refers to some kind of Yucatecan bag, does not come from the Maya as some people say, but from the word “sibucan” which was a bag made of soft tree bark that was used in the region centuries ago.

On their Facebook page, users have recommended Sabucán Express, indicating that it is fast and safe, in addition to the fact that they can deliver not only food, but mostly anything the client requests from the local “changarros” and “tendejones” (corner stores), from chicharrones, sodas or food, as well as other products.

The page can be found on Facebook as Sabucán Express and the numbers to order are 9994 35 72 46 and 9991 28 71 95.

Tixcocob is located 24 kilometers (15 miles) east from Mérida (INEGI)

(At the moment, Sabucán Express is only available in Tixcocob, but it could soon expand its service to Mérida).
