Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano erupted several times during the early morning hours of October 3, sending a column of ash and smoke thousands of feet into the air near San Nicolás de los Ranchos in the state of Puebla.

Video posted to Twitter by Webcams de Mexico shows an explosion of lava followed by billowing smoke and ash.

Mexico’s National Civil Protection Coordination tweeted a yellow phase 2 alert, urging people not to approach the volcano, since it had emitted over 170 exhalations and 2 separate explosions within 24 hours.
