97 men and women from 23 municipalities in Yucatán will have the opportunity to visit and stay for almost 60 days with their families in 12 different cities along the United States, through the reunion program of fathers and mothers with their migrant children known as “Cabecitas blancas”, promoted by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal.
Vila Dosal gave visas and passports to parents who have not seen their children for 20 years or more, who currently reside in American cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Arkansas, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Saint Paul , Salt Lake, Springfield, or Tulsa.
It should be noted that, the 97 parents travel in 4 groups leaving on 4 different days in the month of October, to be spend almost 60 days abroad. Travelers belong to the municipalities of Akil, Buctzotz, Cantamayec, Cenotillo, Dzan, Hoctún, Tekax, Motul, Peanut, Mérida, Muna, Oxkutzcab, Peto, Santa Elena, Sotuta, Teabo, Tecoh, Tekit, Ticul, Tunkás, Uayma, Ucú and Yaxcabá.
Vila Dosal reiterated his support for the Yucatecans who live in the neighboring country, he said he recognizes the effort they make to support their families and send money to their parents who still reside in the state, contributing in a significative way to the local economy, since the economic spill they leave is up to 200 million US dollars a year just in the state of Yucatan.
In this regard, the Governor said that they work hand in hand with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SER) so that it is possible to install an office of the Yucatan State Government in San Francisco to serve the great Yucatecan community that resides up there in Northern California.
The Governor declared that his administration will continue working in these type of programs, and make them succeed.
“Most of all, what’s important is that you can see and hug your children and get to know their families,” governor Mauricio Vila concluded.
