Quintana Roo´s violence does not stop and authorities are doing nothing about it.
CHETUMAL, Quintana Roo (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública) – In spite of the fact that federal, state and municipal security forces, as well as the armed forces, have committed to supporting surveillance on the Chetumal-Tulum highway to stop crimes, two new violent robberies were reported in the “Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto stretch of silence”. This part of the road is called that way because of the scarce traffic, no cellphone reception and very poor police surveillance .
According to police reports, thieves aboard a black Jeep Cherokee blocked the way of two vehicles to steal the passengers belongings and even their cars.

The lack of police surveillance on this stretch of road meant a very unpleasant moment for the victim, a teacher travelling from Tulum to Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the early hours of the morning.
For trying to escape and resisting the robbery, the assailants brutally beat him, tied him up and threw him into a breach to take his money, his vehicle and his belongings.
A family was the victim of the second assault. In the vehicle was a married couple with their son. The perpetrator stopped the car, took the couple´s belongings, and attempted to sexually abuse the woman while beating up the man.
Despite promises by federal and state police to guard this stretch of road, the violent assaults have not been stopped and in the meantime, tourism drops.
