AMLO’s government continues to dismantle Mexico’s Institutions.

(Mexico- Milenio) – The austerity policy, implemented in the first three years of Lopez Obrador’s “4T” has led to the disappearance of at least 21 government institutions and sub-secretariats.

As crime figures keep growing and ravaging the country, the entity with the most losses is the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic. Since two years ago, it has closed six agencies that managed a combined budget of 516.6 million pesos.

Among the bodies that ceased to operate is the Criminal Investigation Agency, the Center for Evaluation and Control of Confidence, the Federal Center for the Protection of Persons, and the National Center for Planning, Analysis, and Information to Combat Crime. The agencies created in past administrations and are now part of the institutional graveyard are the Administrative Body for the Solution of Disputes in Criminal Matters and the Institute for Ministerial, Police, and Expert Training.

In mid-2019, employing an agreement published in the Official Gazette of the Federation. In the Ministry of Economic, the disappearance of two institutions and a sub-secretariat of State that managed 1,805.5 million pesos, destined to different priority projects in the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, such as the Mayan Train.

The agency had to terminate the operation of the public trust known as ProMéxico, which in 2019 managed an allocation of 909.5 million pesos to promote the country abroad and attract investment in infrastructure and tourism resources. In addition, the National Entrepreneur Institute was hit just seven days after López Obrador took office, and, in 2020, following a presidential decree to free up resources and address the pandemic, Economía had to close the operations of its under secretariat.

Also, the disappearance of the National Institute for the Evaluation of Education (INEE), created in the Peña Nieto administration based on the 2013 education reform, was revoked in the first year of the current administration. Furthermore, the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change and the Mexican Institute of Water Technology will disappear in the coming months.

Among the disappeared undersecretaries are the Undersecretary of North America, the Undersecretary of Communications and Technological Development, and the Undersecretary of Government; the others depended on Security, Tourism, Health, Finance, Environment and Labor, and Social Welfare.
