Cancun, Riviera Maya and Mexico City ranked among the top leisure cities in the world.
(CDMX – TYT) – In the Mexican Caribbean, Cancun ranked 2nd in the world’s most sought-after leisure destinations, according to ForwardKeys. In addition to this award, Travel Weekly has also named the Riviera Maya one of the ten best tourist destinations globally. In this regard, the governor of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín wrote on Twitter:

Cancun, Mexico’s leading destination, ranked as the second most important leisure destination on a global scale this year, only behind Dubai, according to a Forwardkeys report. The consulting firm details that Mexico City ranked 16th among the top 20 leisure cities, especially for U.S. tourists.
“A comparison of the world’s top destination cities before the pandemic in 2019 and throughout 2021 illustrates a strong trend toward leisure travel leading to recovery. Several major cities have fallen or dropped out of the top 20 rankings while top destinations, particularly for U.S. tourists, have risen sharply.”
In 2019, the list had: list Dubai, London, Bangkok, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Istanbul, Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Rome, Jeddah, Taipei, Madrid, Los Angeles, Miami, Osaka, and Barcelona led in attracting leisure tourists, by 2021, the covid-19 pandemic caused a complete turnaround.
Forwardkeys report shows that Dubai leads international arrivals through November of this year, followed by Cancun, Istanbul, New York, Miami, Paris, Doha, London, Cairo, Madrid, Amsterdam, Punta Cana, San Juan, Lisbon, Athens, Mexico City, Palma de Mallorca, Rome, Barcelona, and Frankfurt.
