Complaints of abuse by transport service platforms fares increase during the holiday season

The increase is more than 300 percent, a situation that obviously displeases users.

MÉRIDA, Yucatán, (December 23, 2021).- In recent days, users have made known their disagreement about the rates that authorized vehicles such as taxis establish through digital platforms to carry out transfers.

The increase is more than 300 percent, a situation that displeases those who use this means of transport in a traditional way as workers who end their working hours late.

With the high mobility generated by Christmas purchases, parties, and meetings that increase this month, there has been an increase considered “excessive” in the rates of taxis requested through applications. They consider it “unfair” since the minimum amount they paid for short distances has been increased without any justification.

A user requested in the Uber application a transfer from the municipality of Kanasín to the Center of Mérida and the cost was 224 pesos, at an hour in which it is considered not high traffic, however, the price exceeded 80 pesos that usually pays.

This increase occurs constantly on weekends and at night, where even users have announced that the rates reach up to 900 pesos for transfers where up to 150 pesos is normally charged.

Given this situation, Uber, one of the main platforms that dominate the market in the Yucatecan capital, through its social networks issued a statement in which it discloses the reason why it has had this increase.

“We are experiencing a significant increase in travel requests, exceeding the supply of available cars. When this happens, a multiplier of the usual fare is activated, momentarily increasing the price of your trip; inviting a greater number of registered partners of the app to provide their services ”, explained the company.

However, no other of the companies that dominate the market has spoken out on the matter.
