This weekend about four dolphins of the Stenella Longirostris type were found dead off the coast of Progreso.

Progreso, Yucatan, (December 14, 2021).- This weekend about four dolphins of the Stenella Longirostris type were found dead on the coasts located between Chelem and Chuburná, in the municipality of Progreso.

One of the cases was reported by the Progreso Ecological Police, which even offers the numbers 969-103-62-86 and 9992-77-21-90 to report the sightings.

These variations cause expectation, since just last December 8 on Holbox Island, near the Stateline that divides Quintana Roo and Yucatan, dozens of dolphins of this same species almost lost their lives when they were very close to the beach, although only one died and the rest managed to make it back into deeper waters.

It transpired that the dolphins stranded in Holbox could have accompanied an injured or sick specimen to the island, in search of help, since, by nature, they are supportive animals.

Meanwhile, the dolphins found in Progreso were buried by the Ecological Police, which reported it to the corresponding federal and state authorities.

The last time multiple dolphins and turtle calls were made, was in the first quarter of this year when at least 15 specimens were sighted.

At that time no official causes were determined and it was deduced that the damages were caused by fishing vessels or fishing nets.
