MÉRIDA, Yucatán, (December 10, 2021).- As a response by civil society to the unfortunate cases of suicide in Yucatán, a group of specialists, civil associations, and survivors got together to create the ” Collective VIDA against suicide .”
The group is made up of the psychotherapist Yendi Cardozo; the expert in social management Bertha Alicia Rosado; LAE Claudia Pérez; Ing. Raúl Romo; mediator Areny Cobos; psychotherapist Víctor Chan Martín; Alis García Gamboa, director of “Salvemos una Vida” (Save a life); lawyer Rodrigo Pinzón: suicidologist Rita Ortiz; the person in charge of liaison with the media Erika Concha, and the designer Mariana Rihani.
At a press conference, Víctor Chan Martín, coordinator of the Collective, explained that those who make it up are concerned about the increase in suicides in the region, particularly in Yucatán.
“We have decided who make up this group to link experiences, training and knowledge to build and / or strengthen strategies, programs, a team of first responders in psychological first aid, research, protocols and prevention and intervention models as well as make public policy proposals.
We are ready and we invite anyone to join the Collective ”, explained Bertha Alicia Pérez, an expert in Social Management.
More suicides in Yucatán
In Yucatán there are already more than 200 people who have taken their own lives, so far this year, with an increase of 30 percent compared to 2020, revealed the “VIDA Collective Against Suicide.”
As a result of the growth of the problem, the health authorities were urged to update the intervention protocols for people in crisis with suicidal risk.
