Authorities of the region prepare joint projects to promote opportunities for collaboration in cultural matters and economic development
MÉRIDA, Yucatán, (December 13, 2021).- To get on the “wave” that the Mérida Tourism Tianguis (TTM) has generated, operators in the matter and authorities of the three states of the Peninsula are preparing joint projects that allow exploring collaboration opportunities in tourism matters, cultural and economic development, in which Mérida is the launching pad of the regional pole.
The three states that make up the Yucatan Peninsula, given the uncertain outlook left by the global pandemic of Covid-19, propose that a strategy to reactivate this economic sector is the union of efforts to move forward and bring the development of cities.
The director of Tourism and Economic Development, Badih Sleme Flores, revealed that in the coming days they will have meetings between representatives of the three states of the Peninsula to put together a network to project the three states so that tourists have options to visit each one of them through well-defined routes and products.
He added that this network will begin to weave in favor of regional tourism, they will take advantage of the inertia left by TTM 2021, in which national destinations such as Cancun, the Riviera Maya, and Mérida were preferred by large buyers of services.
“The showcase that the TTM represents allows us to build a network to exchange strategies between Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, to carry out a series of activities that allow us to combine the measures to detonate the arrival of visitors to the three destinations. We have already started the first talks and this December we will have a second meeting ”, he pointed out.
To consolidate the tourist activity of the Mundo Maya and create a regional alliance to Central America, the air connectivity that at the moment is very strong, considered the CEO of TAG Airlines, Julio Gamero.
Gastronomy and Carnival
He indicated that among the first events and products that could be twinned is the Yucatecan gastronomy, with the Cozumel Carnival celebrations, which are already being prepared, and with it, the visit of tourists to the two destinations for the first months of 2022.
In this context, the Secretary of Tourism of Yucatán, Michelle Fridman, announced that for the twinning of the three states, it has been planned to resume programs such as the Yucatán Peninsula and the Mundo Maya, which will make it possible for visitors to reach the three destinations.
“It is an alliance that will allow us to promote together, have connectivity, product promotion … So we will continue working as we have done so far,” she said.
