MEXICO, (January 10, 2022).- On January 15, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) will meet with the president-elect, of HondurasXiomara Castro, to discuss common issues, such as migration.

After winning the presidential elections on November 28, Xiomara Castro will arrive in Mexico on a “symbolic” visit to meet with President López Obrador, confirmed Tony García, a member of the President-elect’s Transition Commission.

What topics will AMLO and Xiomara Castro discuss?

Although the member of the transition team confessed that this trip is “symbolic”, but of the utmost importance for his country, he stressed that common issues will be discussed such as:

  • Migrant caravans
  • Assistance to counteract migration
  • Mechanisms for poverty

Tony García stressed that the trip will be “austere” and although he did not specify who will accompany the president-elect, he said that it will not be “a delegation of 70 people like the current government.”

Interviewed on Channel 5 in Tegucigalpa, García stressed that the government of Xiomara Castro is betting on the leftist and progressive style of Mexico and does not intend to distance itself from governments such as Venezuela.

Xiomara Castro will be the first woman to become president of Honduras after winning the November 28 election with 1.7 million votes supported by the leftist Libertad y Refundación party.

Her meeting with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is expected to take place in Mexico City.
