Covid in Mexico gives no respite

Mexico reports more than 17 thousand new cases of covid. 

(CDMX – SS) – In one day, Mexico reported 17,101 new cases of covid-19, bringing the cumulative total to 4,385,415.
There are currently 285,713 active cases of covid-19. Therefore, the epidemic curve registered an increase of 138%, informed the Ministry of Health.

Also, in the last 24 hours, 59 people died from Coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 301,469.
National hospital occupancy increased to 31%, and intensive care beds remained at 17%.

COVID in Yucatan
The Ministry of Health of Yucatan (SSY) recommends the population of Yucatan to avoid the use of cloth masks or scarves since it is described that they DO NOT PROVIDE ANY PROTECTION AGAINST the Omicron variant. “To protect us all, we suggest using two-layer, three-layer, or medical-grade masks such as the KN95, since these have a coverage of up to 95% against Omicron”. Said SSY in its press-release 



In Yucatan, there were a total of 679 new infections of covid and 4 deaths.
618 in Merida,
21 in Motul,
15 in Progreso,
4 in Valladolid,
2 in Kanasín, Muxupip, San Felipe, Ticul and Umán,
1 in Baca, Chemax, Dzidzantún, Hunucmá, Río Lagartos, Tahmek, Tixkokob, Tixpéual and Tunkás.



Specifically, in Merida, 50,216 people have been diagnosed with Coronavirus (accumulated cases as of January 16)
13,092 in the Norte zone
12,289 in the Oriente zone
4,931 in the Centro zone
7,790 in the Sur zone
12,114 in the Poniente zone
