After 25 years of promoting Mexican cinema and its directors, the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) makes a strong comeback in 2022, as it celebrates its silver edition.

Guanajuato | GIFF (January 19, 2022).- The Guanajuato International Film Festival returns with dates for the summer of 2022, sends an open invitation and a call to enroll in the competition in order to encourage the Mexican cinematographic young talent.

In a statement, the GIFF announced that there will be three official venues in Guanajuato:  San Miguel de Allende, León, and Irapuato; locations that guarantee a celebration observing all the sanitary measures.

Thus, it announces its return to traditional dates in the summer, to be held from July 22 to 31, 2022.

On the other hand, on their social networks, they have published during the day some of the scholarship holders selected to study cinematography at the Rotterdam Lab and Guanajuato/Berlin residencies, in addition to promoting the work of former scholarship holders.

This is the case of Abril López Carrillo and María Fernanda Galindo, two emerging producers who will virtually attend the sessions, tables, and consultancies.

The GIFF also announced that it is returning with a new call to register for the 2022 competition and demonstration, for 100% Mexican filmmakers.

Among the categories are feature film, documentary, short film, and virtual reality.

The GIFF reported that during its last edition, 3,274 films were received from 132 countries, including 926 Mexican ones.

During the festival, 188 films were screened, 160 films online, 145 in Official Competition, and the rest were screened in special shows out of competition: ‘Midnight Madness’, ‘Children in Action’ and ‘Cinema Among the Dead’.

Finally, it should be remembered that it is 25 years since the beginning of this festival, for this reason, the GIFF is proud to be one of the essential film gatherings in the country, standing out for its promotion and production of Mexican cinema, its international alliances, and residencies, as well as for denoting the avant-garde of the seventh art through virtual reality and new technologies, remaining in force even in times of pandemic ».

Some Mexican directors and filmmakers have also sent their congratulations through social networks because thanks to this festival their work has been recognized and it has given opportunities to all those Mexican applicants.

The general director, Adriana Camarena of the State Institute of Culture of Guanajuato stated that this 25th edition will be carried out in total compliance with the corresponding health protocols.
