(CDMX) – Alejandro Macías, infectiologist and former commissioner against influenza in the country, said that in the following weeks due to the high spread of the omicron variant of Covid-19, would infect half of Mexico’s population. The doctor assured that: “Never before has an infectious disease been transmitted as fast as the Omicron variant. At this rate in Mexico, half of the population will be infected in the following weeks”.
Macías added that “as far as we know, no virus has ever been transmitted globally in the history of the world with the speed that the Omicron variant is doing.”
How long will Omicron last in Mexico?
The infestologist indicated that the presence of Omicron in Mexico would not end at the same time throughout the country. Instead, it will be by regions. In Mexico City, the whole month of January will be on the rise. Towards the end of the month, February and March, it will enter a condition of equilibrium, assured Dr. Alejandro Macias.
