During the first three years of the AMLO´s administration, the crime of family violence has increased by 20.7 percent, going from 210,188 complaints in 2019 to 253,739 during the past year.
(MEXICO – SESNSP).- With the data established in the Common Law Criminal Incidence report, it was established that between 2020 and 2021, crime increased 15.3 percent, going from 220,031 complaints to 253,739 in those two years.
Between 2019 and 2020, the crime of family violence increased by 4.6 percent, based on the complaints filed in state prosecutors’ offices and compiled by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
Family violence is one of those that have not been contained in the present administration and, on the contrary, it is one of those that present a constant increase such as robbery in the form of passenger transport or simple rape.
In the first month of the current administration, in December 2018, the state authorities registered the opening of 12 thousand 174 investigation folders for this crime, for a total of 696 thousand 132 files in the first 37 months.
In this way, in the first thousand 127 days of the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, a daily average of 617.6 complaints of family violence have been filed, opening 25.7 investigation folders per hour.
Breakout in the pandemic
Family violence presented an increase along with the arrival in the country of the first cases of the covid-19 pandemic, since between 2019 and 2020 there were 9,843 more complaints for this crime, but between 2020 and 2021 the difference is 33 thousand 708 more cases.
After the start with 12 thousand 174 investigation folders for this crime in December 2018, during 2019 in May 20 thousand 378 cases were reported, the only month that exceeded 20 thousand complaints.
In that year in August there were 19 thousand 375 complaints of family violence, in July another 19 thousand 235, October closed with 18 thousand 798 and September with 18 thousand 288.
For 2020, the year affected by the start of the pandemic caused by the SARS-COv-2 virus, in March, with the first cases, complaints of family violence were 20,505, with 20,096 in September and 20,590 cases in October, three months with more than 20 thousand cases this year.
This situation also led to an increase in the phenomenon of family violence, with an upward trend that began in March 2021 with 23,711 complaints, another 23,388 in April and reached its maximum in May with 23,909 complaints.
For June 2021 there were 22 thousand 523 investigation folders, in July there were 21 thousand 523, in August there were 21 thousand 284, another 20 thousand 808 in September and 21 thousand 527 in October 2021, as the months with more than 20 thousand complaints for this crime.
