In the next few days, the details of the new line of the Maya Train will be announced, which will allow the completion of the work in the time required by AMLO.

(QUINTANA ROO – FONATUR).- “On Wednesday, January 19, another change in the route of the Mayan Train was announced, now in the Cancun-Playa del Carmen section. The train will no longer be elevated and will not pass through the center of Playa del Carmen so as not to affect third parties”, said the director of Fonatur Javier May Rodríguez.

The measure, he maintained, is a decision that allows the work to be completed in a timely manner as AMLO requires, in July 2023, since he said, a dynamic strategy will be implemented to speed up the work.

After meeting with authorities from the Ministry of Defense in charge of this railway section, he pointed out that with these agreements, the urban area will not be affected and the expropriation decree is a concerted process after reaching agreements with the owners of the land.

Accompanied by the head of Sedatu in Quintana Roo, Román Mayer Falcón, he confirmed that as of this Wednesday the works that had begun in the urban area of Playa del Carmen are cancelled.

The new line, he explained, seeks the least impact on the already urbanized area, the train goes at ground level, it will not rise, it will not cross the urban area.

The new road, he limited, allows us to work more quickly, without a doubt he insisted, it is the best decision we have been able to make on this project that will detonate the economy of the region due to its connectivity and will be a means of transport that workers in the industry tourist can use to get to their workplaces.

For his part, the president of the Business Coordinating Council of the Riviera Maya, Lenin Maro Betancourt, expressed his appreciation for the decision of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to have heard his request to change the route and that the train does not pass through the center of Playa del Carmen since the traffic and the reduced area was destined to be a bottleneck with negative economic and tourist effects during its construction and operation.
