The Maya Soccer Cup is postponed due to an increase in Covid cases, it will take place in April

Mérida, Yucatán, (January 13, 2022).- Due to the notable increase in cases of the Omicron variant in Yucatan and in general throughout the Republic, the Maya Soccer Cup that was announced just a few days ago with great fanfare, to be held the first week of February, in this city, had to be rescheduled and could now be staged until April.

In a statement, the organizing corporation Massport.mx announced this decision and acknowledged that it will affect the teams’ plans, for which they will design a scheme to provide them with support, in addition to being in constant communication.

The contest was officially scheduled from February 3rd to 7th, with the performance of around 150 squads, in 18 categories and the modalities of Football-7, Football-9 and regular soccer with 11 players, in both branches.

“We recognize how delicate the situation currently in our country is due to Covid-19 infections, therefore Massport.mx as a company committed to sports, health, tourism and education, decided to give priority to thousands of players, parents, coaches, business partners, staff and the general public who attend our event ”, indicates the document, endorsed by Juan Noris Mendoza, general director of the group.

For the tournament, the presence of dozens of Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Puebla and Mexico City was already confirmed, along with the presence of viewers of the 18 franchises of the First Division of Mexican football and some of the Expansion League, to detect talent.

“We hope to have your understanding and we recommend that you follow local, state and national instructions to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” says the notified.

“The same passion that led us to create our nationally and internationally recognized sporting events motivates us to create new and better experiences for you,” the statement concludes.
