Two Canadian tourists dead after shooting inside Xcaret theme park in the Riviera Maya

A man shot three guests of Canadian origin at the five-star hotel. One of them died in the hospital and another in the ambulance.

EXCELSIOR.- On the afternoon of Friday, January 21st, local media outlets reported on social networks about a shooting that broke out inside the premises of the luxurious Xcaret Hotel, something that used to be totally unthinkable, it is now more and more frequent. The Quintana Roo Public Security authorities confirmed the facts.

On Twitter, the user @ fvidal1 had reported that a shooting had occurred at Xcaret.

According to information, the park employees were guarded in the restaurant area and the waiters were locked in the kitchen after the shooting.

Likewise, it was learned that the firearm shots were fired inside the Xcaret hotel, in which one Canadian was killed two people were injured.

“This is the guest who shot causing the injuries that later caused the death of one of them, the authorities of the coordination group are deploying a strong operation for his capture, any information for a prompt arrest will be deeply appreciated,” he wrote in a message.

Authorities reported that the shooting occurred after an argument between hotel guests. 

During the last year, various attacks have been perpetrated on tourist sites in the Caribbean.

The last one occurred on November 4 when two drug dealers were murdered in front of the beaches of the Hyatt Ziva Riviera hotel, in Puerto Morelos.

A commando of at least 12 people arrived in a boat, killed them and fled in the same water vehicle, an issue that was recorded on video.

In September, a woman was shot at on Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen, located in the Municipality of Solidaridad, on one of the busiest pedestrian streets for domestic and foreign tourists in Quintana Roo.

In June, two people were attacked at Playa Tortugas in Cancun, a situation in which an American woman was injured.
