The cold fronts will bring temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees, especially in the south and west
Mérida, Yucatán, CONAGUA (January 20, 2021).- As part of the icy air masses coming from the north of the continent, low temperatures will continue in Yucatán, with the arrival of two cold fronts, warned the head of the State Civil Protection Coordination (Procivy), Enrique Alcocer Basto, following the instruction of Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, to keep citizens informed.
He explained that, according to the agency’s State Monitoring and Alert System (SEMA), both phenomena will be moderate, that is, they will not imply significant drops in the temperature.
The first cold front will be stationary and will enter in the afternoon or night of Saturday 22, with minimums of 14 to 16 degrees, in the south, center, and west, which historically present conditions close to frost.
The second one will arrive on Tuesday 25, with minimum temperatures between 12 to 14 degrees, in the southern regions of the state; between 13 and 15, in the center and north, and from19 to 21 degrees Celsius, on the coastal zone.
Both cold fronts will bring rainy weather, with wind gusts of between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour, waves of 1.0 to 1.5 meters, and scattered showers, the official pointed out.
Likewise, Alcocer Basto called on families to protect their most vulnerable members, such as children, seniors, or disabled adults, from sudden changes in temperature; as the cold weather will prevail in the region for most of next week, he suggested staying warm at night and early in the morning, since respiratory diseases are more frequent at this time of year.
