Mérida, Yucatán, (January 12, 2022).- As a way to promote the discipline and also promote sports tourism, on February 6th, the second edition of the International Mountain Biking Ultramarathon will take place, between the municipalities of Chumayel and Tekit, with the participation of 300 exponents.

The performance of riders from the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy, among other countries, as well as national representatives of entities such as Baja California, Nuevo León, Jalisco, Chiapas, Campeche, Quintana Roo, has already been confirmed.

It is an individual competition of a single day, which belongs to the XC-M modality of mountain biking, a route through interconnected paths between Chumayel, Tekit, Hacienda Bolontunil, and the Eco Parque Aventura Bolontunil, with a total extension of 50 kilometers.

The fair will include distances of 30, 50, 100, and 150 kilometers, which means that cyclists will have to reach two or up to three laps to complete their respective tests. The accumulated elevation on the course is more than 400 meters, the type of trail is mixed, with fast paths and technical roads.

“Last year we had 150 competitors and now we have doubled the number, which means that we are on the right track. The route covers farms, cenotes, convents and becomes attractive for visitors, it becomes sports tourism that brings economic benefits to the municipalities and the entire State, and allows travelers to enjoy everything that Yucatán has to offer ”, expressed Sergio Rodríguez Pérez, director of the Park Aventura Bolontunil, who added that next year they will try to add Mayapán, to form a more extensive circuit.

The contest will include the free categories, masters 30, 40, and 50 years, in addition to 60 and older, for both branches.

In the 150 kilometers, only 20 exponents will see action, since it is destined for the high-level, elite division. The departure will take place at 6.00 am.

“The objective is to decentralize the sport, we have generated programs to look for scenarios where we have the opportunity to show the advantages and benefits of the municipalities of the interior. It is a friendly route, which has all the requirements that cyclists need, which means a challenge in sports, but an offer in terms of tourism ”, said Carlos Sáenz Castillo, director of the State Sports Institute (IDEY).

In Yucatán, clubs such as Coox Balak, Lagartos MTB, Toxis MTB, Crossfox, Bici Chobis, Toloks, Raptors and MTB Tekax will take part. It should be noted that the registration quota is already full.

The presentation was also attended by Guadalupe Chay Puc, trustee of Chumayel; Felipe Medina Collí, mayor of Tekit; as well as José Luis Báez Anguas, president of the Association of Competitive, Training and Recreational Cycling of Yucatán.
