In the midst of a great atmosphere shortly after 8 pm last Saturday night, hundreds of people witnessed the lighting of the majestic Christmas tree that Bepensa, the Coca Cola bottling company, has been installing in the Yucatan Peninsula since 1997.
There was no shortage of families who, in order to get a good spot, arrived as early as three in the afternoon, but there was someone who beat them, as he arrived at this magical space located in the parking lot of a well-known supermarket as early as 8 in the morning: Javier Pacheco, who, in recognition of his effort, was invited by the company’s directors to take the stage as a special guest.
The excitement and emotion was felt in the atmosphere when the countdown began and everyone counted in chorus, and when the expected moment arrived, the pyrotechnics made its appearance illuminating the skies, amidst the applause of those present who did not miss any detail of this magical show, in which the more than one hundred thousand lights placed in the body of the tree of 45 meters high lit up.
This edition marks 25 years since the beginning of this celebration, which has become a tradition and, of course, one of the most awaited by Yucatecan families, who come throughout the month of December to enjoy the now famous “Christmas Show”, a great show full of positive messages and values.
(As you may recall, during the two years of the pandemic, on one occasion the event was completely suspended and the following year only the tree was lit).
In order to take care of the attendees, who packed the place, the state police mounted a traffic operation to divert traffic in front of the Centro de Convenciones Yucatán Siglo XXI, so many drivers opted to park their vehicles along the street leading to Hacienda Xcumpich and walked to the Coca Cola Village, where, as is now customary, a fair was set up with mechanical games and a good number of stalls where, dressed in their Santa’s helper costumes, they prepared French fries, churros, and even grilled meat skewers.
The crowds were so large that it was practically impossible to leave the parking lot and many drivers were stranded for a long time, while for those who did not manage to enter the Christmas Show, a stage was set up at the doors of the supermarket for Santa Claus to receive the little ones’ letters and their parents to take a souvenir photo with their cell phones.
If you didn’t have the opportunity to see “Christmas Show” last night, don’t worry, because tonight there will be another show at 7 pm, as well as on Saturday December 3rd and Sunday December 4th, at the same time.
On Saturday, December 10 and 17, the show is scheduled twice, at 6:30 and 8:30 pm and on Sunday at 8:30 pm. On Friday 23rd, for the only time during the week, there will be a show at seven o’clock at night.
During the week, as usual, the academies request space to present their Christmas stamps. There are more than 200 scheduled times.
