Yucatecan companies are joining projects in favor of the environment, among them is the owner of the Tostado Coffee & Brunch coffee shops, who since their opening a couple of years ago in the Yucatecan capital have sought to contribute to organizations that protect animals or carry out activities to promote and care for nature reserves in Yucatan.
Fernando Guevara López is a businessman from Merida, who has made sure that his two coffee shops remain allies of the environmentalists of Yucatán, from fostering some 30 jobs, he has also tried to help them through mechanisms of contributions for each product they sell per month.
How did the intention to support these types of organizations come about?
Since we opened the first coffee shop we have always promoted the responsibility of taking care of our environment, we try that everything we use as a business does not affect it and therefore we promote with our customers to take care of it.
We believe that, if as a society we put a little bit of ourselves for the care of the environment, we ourselves will be the ones who will be able to enjoy its benefits.
Which organization are you supporting?
My team and I, like many Yucatecans, are very happy to live in such a wonderful state with a lot of natural wealth such as animals and birds, so we try to support all those initiatives that are for the welfare of the environment, but there are also those who even threaten the environment, at this time to Proyecto Santa Maria, we believe they do a wonderful job and need our help to continue operating.
Why help Proyecto Santa Maria?
I think it is an association that does good work, it has rescued a hundred birds and many of them, such as the Yucatecan parrot, have shown to be a group of people who are really committed to this work and we as a company have to support them to the best of our ability.
The idea is that the Santa Maria Project also considers us as part of their team, so that not only through the purchase of a glass people can contribute, but all those who want to help them, our points of sale can be the link between the association and those who contribute.
How do you support them?
We started an initiative in September of this year, because as a business committed to the environment we continue to contribute, but what better than to have a specific item destined for associations such as Proyecto Santa María, which is one of the organizations we help.
We are marketing for them a thermal cup made of wheat, we put it on sale the first time in September and fortunately in two weeks we managed to sell all the cups, which were 100 in total, this time we decided to bring out another edition and there were another 100 cups, which we hope will be finished during this month.
In these times it is difficult to be an entrepreneur and help?
Nowadays there is a great variety of coffee shops in Mérida, for all tastes and that is good that people have a diversity of options, but we have proposed to work for the client, to give the client what he needs, to take care of him in the sense of what we offer, it is not just any coffee and the food we serve, all are consumed in the supply centers, thinking of our Yucatecan producers and everything is prepared at the moment, that is what helps us to have the confidence of our clients.
