The driver of a tractor-trailer tragically lost his life after getting out of his unit to help a colleague who was having problems with his vehicle but was tragically run over by his companion on the Merida-Campeche highway.

According to information gathered, the deadly incident took place on Sunday, January 8th, at kilometer 150+800 of the aforementioned highway, where the 46-year-old Manuel “N“, a native of Cosamaloapan, Veracruz, was driving his heavy unit towards Merida but stopped when he saw that one of his colleagues named Camilo “N” was having problems with his trailer.

Manuel decided to stop to help Camilo, but upon getting out of his unit and walking on the highway he was allegedly run over by his colleague’s unit.

After being hit by the trailer, the man was dragged several meters, until he was left lying on the edge of the right shoulder of the road next to a metal retaining fence, while the responsible party fled the scene.

The Umán Municipal Police arrived at the scene to take knowledge of what had happened and to request an ambulance. Unfortunately, the paramedics could only confirm the death of the truck driver, as he had multiple exposed fractures, so he died instantly after the blow he had received.

It was learned that Camilo “N” was later detained several kilometers ahead, exactly at kilometer 155, where the truck and its double semi-trailer were secured while the corresponding investigations were carried out.

It should be noted that the heavy unit was still stuck underneath a plastic fence that possibly fell when fleeing.

The body of the unfortunate man was removed from the scene by the Forensic Medical Service.
