Yucatan is already registering high temperatures, and with this the fire season begins, Enrique Alcocer Basto, State Coordinator of Civil Protection, said that approximately 20 fires are registered daily.

“We are already having an average of 20 incidents, from very small ones, daily, but I am talking about the entire state, not only in Merida, although mainly located in the west of the state, from very small ones on the roadside to some of greater magnitude. “

Likewise, the head of PROCIVY indicated that with this phase of fires recently installed the State Committee for Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting.

“Already every day we are having some incidents, of course, it is normal in this season, it is still nothing that is of great concern, but yes, and State Civil Protection, we are in full coordination with Conafor, with the Ministry of Public Safety and with the Municipal Civil Protection coordinations to address this issue as every year.”

Finally, Alcocer Basto pointed out that the main cause of fires is the burning of garbage, so he issued some recommendations for Yucatecans.

“We should not burn garbage, we should clean our yards, not accumulate garbage in them either so that we do not give an entrance door to fires, those who cook outdoors in open fires, with firewood, with charcoal should not neglect what is being cooked during the moment of cooking because by wind and a spark, cardboard, wood or Huano houses have been burned and of course the recommendations of always not throwing cigarette butts on the side of the road.”
