Mexican TV icon dies at 88 years old

We are sadden by the news of Xavier López Chabelo’s sudden death. He was 88 years old and is considered one of the most iconic characters of Mexican television. He passed away suddenly this Saturday, March 25, after being away from the media for many years, during which time he dedicated himself to enjoying his family.

The famous actor and idol of many generations died as a result of abdominal complications that finally his body could not resist. So far, no further details of his death or where Xavier will be laid to rest have been released. His family released the unfortunate news on their Twitter account.

“This is a very sad morning, Xavier Lopez Chabelo , father, brother and husband has left us suddenly, cause of abdominal complications. With a broken soul and knowing that many people have loved him for many years and will feel his departure, we ask you to pray for his rest and give us the opportunity to pass in peace the grief that overwhelms our entire family,” wrote the López Miranda family.

Born in Chicago in 1935, Chabelo began his artistic career at the age of 17 in radio and theater. It was in the 1960s when he joined the world of television, where he quickly gained popularity thanks to his children’s program “El Club de Chabelo,” which aired for more than 48 years on Mexican television.

The program, which was characterized by the participation of children in educational activities and games, became a reference in Mexico’s popular culture. Chabelo, who has remained as the show’s host during all these years, has become an icon of children’s television and a reference in Mexico’s popular culture.

In addition to his television career, Chabelo has participated in several films and radio programs, and has received multiple awards for his artistic career. Although the program “El Club de Chabelo” came to an end in 2015, his legacy in Mexican television continues to live on in the memory of several generations.
