March 10.- In a public statement in which it does not mention Juan Carlos Lomónaco, who until now was the principal conductor of the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra (OSY), the Secretary of Culture of the state government announced the appointment of José Areán as Artistic Director of the OSY.
Maestro Lomónaco, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, conducted the OSY for 14 years. He developed the scheme thanks to which the OSY was able to continue operating during the confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic. His links and trajectory allowed the OSY to give presentations of great relevance, such as the accompaniment of Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez at the Auditorio Nacional, and the arrival of high-level guest conductors to Yucatán.
In the morning, the OSY announced the cancellation of its concerts scheduled for Friday and Sunday, part of program 6 of the 39th season of the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra.

With the objective of sustaining the excellence and recognition of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Yucatán (OSY), which in February 2024 will celebrate its 20th anniversary, the OSY Committee formed for that purpose, proposed several lines of action to be implemented from the coming days.
Thus, the Committee, made up of people with experience and knowledge of the musical institution, in coordination with the Guarantor Trust for the Symphony Orchestra of Yucatán (FIGAROSY) will apply a new management model that will begin with the renewal of the programs that will henceforth include more Mexican composers, especially from Yucatán, as well as more Yucatecan composers, especially Yucatecan composers, as well as concerts in new formats and in different venues that include outings to the interior of the state in order to increase the number of spectators and that more people have access and contact with this group that has enhanced the cultural and artistic life of the state since its creation in 2004.
Following the recommendations of the members of the Committee, in this new stage, didactic concerts will also be held in municipalities, allowing those people who intend to train professionally in music to have a reference of this activity and thus, seedbeds such as the Houses of Culture and related spaces, find in the OSY and its more than 60 members, allies in this work of strengthening the social fabric through art, while with this action, the orchestra joins the artistic awareness project promoted by the State Executive.
Likewise, and with the objective of extending the reach of the Symphony Orchestra in the rest of the state and advancing in the realization of future goals that motivate the emergence of new talents, innovation and the projection of the state, there will be a change of artistic direction, which from now on will be in charge of the musician José Areán (who has been guest conductor of the OSY).
