YUCALPETÉN, Yucatan, March 17, 2023. – The Ministry of the Navy in the exercise of the National Maritime Authority, through the Mexican Navy in Coast Guard, informs that the personnel attached to the Naval Station of Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR) in Yucalpetén, belonging to the Thirteenth Naval Zone, in coordination with the fishing community of Progreso, Yucatan, provided support to a fishing vessel, which reported the loss of a crew member approximately 155 nautical miles (249 kilometers) off the coast of Progreso.
This action was carried out after receiving a phone call from the Consignee Agency “Base Evita” of Progreso, informing that said fishing vessel reported the loss of one of its shipments with a crew member on board. For this reason, an Oceanic Patrol and a naval air unit were deployed to the search area.
As a result of these actions and the combined efforts of fishing vessels in the area, the crew member was located by one of these vessels, and in order to safeguard human life at sea, An Oceanic Patrol of this Institution went to the place to perform rescue maneuvers and once the lost person was on board, he was given medical attention by Naval Health personnel, since he showed signs of dehydration, hypothermia and hemodynamic instability.
Under this context, the crew member was concentrated at the ENSAR Yucalpetén dock, to be later transferred in an ambulance to a local hospital to receive specialized medical attention.
