The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) headed by Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero in coordination with the Mexican Navy, in two different actions, managed to incinerate 1,826 kilos of pure cocaine seized in the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.
According to the FGR’s investigation files, the drugs were seized by the Port Protection Naval Unit No. 103, in coordination with the Maritime Customs of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.
During the period from February 1 to March 14 of this year, the elements of the Fourteenth Naval Zone of the Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico (Semar) based in Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), were able to locate the drug during routine inspections in various containers.
Following the protocols dictated by the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, the first incineration ceremony was presided over by the Commander of the Fourteenth Naval Zone and personnel from the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime belonging to the Attorney General’s Office, who witnessed the facts.
The second seizure took place when naval personnel, in coordination with elements of the Maritime Customs of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, carried out an inspection of 478 containers of the vessel “VALOR” with Maltese flag.
Throughout the inspection they found nine packages packed with plastic tape containing the presumed illicit cargo, distributed inside two containers; with the support of canine binomials of the Mexican Navy, they carried out an inspection that yielded positive results for narcotics, proceeding to make them available to the Attorney General’s Office.
In the course of the second incineration ceremony, naval authorities were present, as well as representatives of the Attorney General’s Office, who verified the total destruction of the narcotics, attesting to the facts.
