During a citizen’s march for World Water Day this afternoon in Mérida’s Centro, a group of people engaged in acts of violence and graffiti on private and official property.

An agent of the State Investigation Police (PEI) was severely injured in the head and had to be taken to a hospital.

At first the march went smoothly. People protested freely; however, a group of individuals disrupted the event.

Elements of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) detained two men and two women for their probable responsibility in the damages caused and in the aggressions against public servants.

The detainees are Dafne Isabel A. M., Andrea Sofía C. R., Andrew Misael O. M. and Sebastián N. U. They will be handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Likewise, the PEI in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) are working on the identification of other persons involved in the events, in order to gather evidence to request the respective arrest warrants from a Control Judge.
