As of March 17, “Va y Ven” cards can be recharged at Oxxo stores.

Last Thursday, March 2nd, the Government of Yucatan presented a series of improvements for the Circuito Metropolitano route, to integrate it to the “Va y Ven” Intelligent Mobility System, so that for two weeks it will offer its service in a more efficient way.

The Institute of Mobility and Urban Territorial Development (IMDUT), informed that from this Saturday, March 4th until next Sunday, March 19th, the new 34 European type units will be circulating around 231 neighborhoods of the city, without charging for the service.

The state agency pointed out that with the introduction of the new units, in addition to six others that are on the way, the route will reduce waiting times from 24 to 12 minutes, thanks to a higher frequency, capacity, comfort, quality and safety to offer a quality service.

The new buses have spaces for wheelchairs, tactile floor, Braille system, preferential seats and low floor so that the elderly and people with disabilities can access with all the facilities, while they will be monitored in real time, as they are equipped with cameras so that the trips are made safely.

The Metropolitan Circuit will operate from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. with 261 defined stops covering 118.9 kilometers connecting with other routes such as Route 2: Kanasín-Naranjos, Circuito Poniente y Plazas, Circuito Rojo Coca, CTM Fracc. Victoria-Pedregales II and Route 5 Sol-Hacienda-Cd. Caucel, which concentrate about 14% of the total weekly traffic.

The general director of IMDUT, Rafael Hernández Kotasek, pointed out that in addition to the reduction of waiting time, among the benefits of the integration to the “Va y ven” system is the increase in service capacity from 70 to 81 people.

He indicated that another novelty is that as from March 20 the Metropolitan Circuit will also be paid through the smart cards of the new urban transportation system. In this sense, he pointed out that users will no longer be able to recharge their cards only at the ATMs, but will also have the option of buying credit in convenience stores.

This is due to the fact that in social networks users of the Periferico Route and the Night Routes, which are already paid with this card, have denounced that sometimes the cashiers do not accept coins, do not give change or report failures in the system, stranding passengers in the periphery or downtown, without the possibility of boarding the units because they do not accept cash.

Card payment

Regarding payment with card, Hernandez Kotasek pointed out that the aim is to make quick upgrades, improve the frequency of the service and provide greater security by reducing cash in public places, as well as transfers at special and cheaper prices.

“As of March 17 it will be possible to recharge the card at Oxxo stores and soon it will be possible to purchase and recharge the “Va y Ven” card at more than 600 convenience stores, pharmacies and local supermarkets, besides users will be able to recharge their card at the ATMs installed at the bus stops on Periférico and in Downtown Merida,” he indicated.

He mentioned that IMDUT brigadistas will be selling smart cards in the 36 units of Circuito Metropolitano and at the bus stops of Macroplaza, Gran Plaza, Plaza Canek, OXXO Av. Xoclán, UTM and at the IMSS in Pacabtún.
