Mexico was at the top in the Pole Championship Series 2023 (PCS), after Jesús Avalos and Montserrat Lara won gold medals in the tournament held as part of the “Arnold Classic” International Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, USA.
Pole sport is becoming more and more important worldwide and on this occasion more than 140 countries participated, where Mexico has become a power in this discipline.
Jesús Avalos won the gold medal in the elite men’s division.
On the other hand, Jesús Avalos and Montserrat Lara won another gold medal for Mexico in the duet category, where they performed three routines that earned them the recognition of the public and the judges of the Pole Championship Series.
“The routines of these Mexican athletes were perfectly balanced, with a high level of difficulty, strength, flexibility, synchronization, choreography, and creativity,” said Tara Mayer, Canadian judge of the event.
Mexicans Jesús Ávalos, 22, and Montserrat Lara, 19, won their pass to the tournament after winning last October’s World Pole and Aerial Sports Championship, organized by the Aerial and Pole Sports World League (APS), which was held in Cancun, Quintana Roo.
Originally from Morelia, Michoacán, they have eight years of experience and hold a world record achieved back in 2018.
The Mexican Federation of Pole Sport (FEMEXPOLE) has the goal of having more national competitors in this championship in 2024.
“Mexico is a world leader in aerial disciplines and Pole Sports. Our athletes have placed in different medals since 2016 and this international championship was no exception,” stated Jezabel Olmos, president of the Mexican Pole Sports Federation.
The Pole Championship Series promoted more than 50 different physical disciplines.
