María Cristina Castillo Espinosa, head of the Secretariat of Women (Semujeres), revealed that the State Government is working to open a Violeta Regional Center in Mérida, which will seek to address cases of violence against women in the Yucatan capital.
In addition to the above, the state official indicated that the Women with Safe Housing Program benefited around 80 women during the past year, which was achieved thanks to the budget increase for this agency and indicated that registration for this social scheme is still open to all women who require it.
She indicated that there is no budget limit to support women who suffer violence, and that the instruction of Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal is to support Yucatecan women who suffer some type of violence, who come to the Violeta Regional Centers thanks to the existing coordination with the Municipal Women’s Institutes.
Castillo Espinosa indicated that requests for support are made at the Violeta Regional Centers, of which there are currently 34 in Yucatan, and that orientation can also be requested at the Municipal Women’s Institutes, which deal mostly with cases of domestic, psychological, physical and economic violence.
The state official added that flyer campaigns are being carried out so that those who are victims know where to go and are aware that they are going through a situation of violence, but above all, they know that they are not alone and that there are instances that can support them.
