While the Leones de Yucatán are a team full of experienced players, they also have a crop of talented youngsters led by Ángel Camacho, who only made his debut last season.
He is only 22 years old, but he is one of the most important prospects not only for the Melenudos, but also in Mexican baseball. And he proved it last year when he became Mexico’s most valuable player at the Under-23 World Championship in Chinese Taipei.
This Wednesday, prior to the second day of training, Camacho indicated that he is in optimal conditions to fight for a place in manager Roberto “Chapo” Vizcarra’s official roster.
“I feel good to make the team, during these weeks I have been training and I arrived in good shape. I appreciate the support of my teammates, since my arrival they have tucked me in and I have also received advice to be a better baseball player,” said the outfielder.
To earn a place with the Yucatan Lions
The native of Hermosillo, Sonora, made his debut in 2022 with the Leones. He played 15 games, hit three hits, scored five times and had a .200 average.
Another pitcher who comes to the cave with the desire to succeed is Carlos Stiff Rodríguez, who arrived after a trade with El Águila de Veracruz and is looking to improve his numbers from last year.
“I come to put myself at the manager’s orders, I am ready for when they tell me. It is a great team, with a long tradition, I come to give my best,” said the left-handed pitcher.
The preparation continued at “Kukulcán” Park, where a batting and pitching session was held, with the presence of Yucatecan infielder Elías Verdugo, catcher Jafet Ojeda and pitcher Said Gutiérrez Jr.
