April 1.- The Mérida City Hall informed that the giraffe “Chucho”, from Animaya Zoo, died last Thursday due to an irreversible encephalic and neuropathic signology, and despite the attempts of the veterinary team to save his life, he did not survive.
Representatives from Profepa, Semarnat, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the UADY and specialists from Animaya performed a complete evaluation and applied medications to mitigate the pain of the musculoskeletal system in situations of inflamed tissues and a treatment to treat this discomfort, however, he was euthanized.
At seven o’clock on Thursday morning, the animal caretakers detected that the giraffe presented an abnormal curvature in its neck, so the veterinarians immediately checked it and confirmed an inflammation at the level of the cervical vertebrae.
Around 11:00 a.m. and 20 minutes later, the giraffe convulsed and was left in the left lateral ulna position, so they notified the competent federal authorities and the pathologists of the Veterinary Faculty of the UADY.
