Cancun has everything, but after 53 years since its foundation, there will always be needs to be addressed, such as more infrastructure, better urban equipment, and avoiding the existence of population in need, agreed businessmen Romárico Arroyo and Cristina Alcayaga, who are also pioneers of this city.
“Cancun has grown for more than 50 years, largely thanks to what exemplary citizens do, and it is important to create that civic awareness that one must do everything possible for the community,” said the businessman.
Both businessmen and authorities, he emphasized, must work together to strengthen programs that allow citizens to have a general development, make sure that wealth reaches every corner of the city, and therefore, a better quality of life for all the people in Cancun.
New infrastructure, such as that being built today in the destination, they pointed out, is something that has been awaited for years, that is finally being built today, and that is a good start to having a better design of the streets and attending to the needs of all the people who already live in the Mexican Caribbean.
“The success is so great that sometimes it overwhelms us, and we also have to see how far it develops, to contain it at some point so that it does not get out of hand. Likewise, it is very important that the majority of the population living on the outskirts of Cancun and working in the hotels see how they are improving their quality of life,” established Cristina Alcayaga.
The tourist offer, she emphasized, is wonderful, it has had a surprising boom after the pandemic, and Cancun is an international reference for tourism, which is why the entrepreneurial part must be guided to be better, to have companies where people like to work and have a friendly relationship, with dialogue.
Cancun – both agreed – must be very competitive, because it currently has several destinations that are coming behind it, such as Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, with 70,000 rooms, but without neglecting the social conditions, so that it is a city worthy of living in and not only stands out in one thing, but in all areas, finding a balance.
“That is why a project like the Cancun Park is important, because they are spaces for distraction, entertainment, and rest for the population that works so hard to make the destination function,” added Romárico Arroyo, who is also a member of the board of this green area, a space that was inaugurated precisely on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the city.
The family, emphasized Cristina Alcayaga, is the cell of society, and there are many temptations in the destination, so families “must be preserved,” whether it is for two people or a single person with their children, for whom full-time daycare centers should be promoted, “so that when the children leave, they are not on the street, that they are not latchkey kids. I think that is very important so that we have a more balanced population.”
