Drunk tourist arrested after he jumped into the sea in Progreso

A man around 30 years old put on a show at the beach of Progreso, after insisting on swimming against the current while under the influence of alcohol; despite the danger to his life, he never thought twice about entering the sea.

According to witnesses, the man had been rescued on a previous occasion, after beachgoers saw him trying to swim back to shore, and he was brought to safety. However, his impaired state did not make him heed the recommendations, and he jumped into the water again without anyone being able to stop him.

Given the large number of people in Progreso this Easter Sunday, security personnel went to the scene, where they asked him and several other intoxicated individuals to avoid putting themselves at risk by entering the sea, especially in the afternoon.

However, seeing that he was a repeat offender, he was rescued and arrested because he insisted on putting himself at risk of drowning at the beaches of Progreso.

The arrest took place near 80th Street, due to his insistence on entering the sea, as witnesses stated that he had already been taken out of the water at least twice.

The individual was arrested by ecological police officers and taken to the municipal jail by DSPT elements as a preventive measure to avoid putting his life at risk.
