So far this Holy Week, the tourist attraction, ‘El Corchito’, has become one of the most visited in Progreso.
According to data from the Secretaría de Fomento Turístico, last year the nature reserve accumulated a total of 34,723 visitors from January to April, an increase of 58% over the years when sanitary protocols were implemented due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Regarding these figures, in the first two months of 2023, 17,193 visits were recorded and it is expected that by the end of April, the statistics will exceed last year’s visits.
In the first four months of 2021, the reserve was the fifth most visited tourist site with 21,885 tourists.
In 2020, which reported two months of social freedom and two months of confinement due to the pandemic, a rise of 3.5 percent more than in 2021 could be seen, with 22 thousand 757 visits; while in 2019, which was the last year before the arrival of the pandemic, a census of 48 thousand 970 accesses to the parador was obtained.
It is worth mentioning that most of the people who come to visit ‘El Corchito’ are unaware of the history of how the place came about, as well as the point of its evolution to become what today is known as one of the most visited tourist attractions in the port of Progreso.
