MÉRIDA, Yucatan, April 18, 2023. With the high temperatures that have been felt in the Yucatan capital in recent weeks, there have been several cases of pets with heat stroke, in this situation Quadratin went to a veterinary doctor to discuss some suggestions for dogs and cats to survive the heat.
Vianey Sotelo, explained that high temperatures must be taken seriously, because it is not enough to put a container with water, because if the liquid is not in optimal conditions, far from benefiting, it can cause a health problem.
“Yes, you have to give them plenty of water, but it is to fill them a container with water and put it in a place where the sun does not hit it and be constantly changing it so that it is fresh, otherwise the puppy will only take by necessity, less than it requires and will end up dehydrating me, you can also give them serums.”
Similarly, he pointed out to avoid walks after 9 or 10 in the morning, and before 6 or 7 in the afternoon, since the sun is strong in that range and the floor is very hot, although the pads of his paws are thick, if they can suffer severe lacerations.
Another suggestion is to keep it indoors, or under a roof in a cool place so that the pet is calm, besides bathing it with abundant water.
Finally, the doctor explains that in case the animal is affected by heat stroke, the first thing to do is to lower its temperature, putting it in a tub with cool water, or with a wet cloth to cool its paws and abdomen, give it a saline solution, and take it immediately to the veterinarian.
