MÉRIDA, Yuc., March 30, 2023.- The City Council headed by Renán Barrera Concha has as a priority public policy to turn Mérida into a recreational, gastronomic, cultural, academic and convention tourist destination, taking advantage of the infrastructure that exists in the Municipality.
The Municipal President indicated that, thanks to its security, infrastructure and quality in public services, Mérida has positioned itself, in recent years, as one of the places to visit most requested by national and foreign tourists.
“Despite the fact that Mérida is a city that attracts for its cultural and gastronomic wealth and for its infrastructure to hold large events, we have not lowered our guard and have promoted specific promotion programs at the local, national and international level to reactivate the local economy. ”, he expressed.
In this sense, from March 26 to 29, the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico 2023 was held in Mexico City, where the Mérida City Council had a significant presence and Mérida was positioned as one of the important destinations in the tourism industry. .
With the participation of a delegation headed by José Luis Martínez Semerena, director of Economic Development and Tourism, business meetings, work tables, alliances and collaboration letter signings were held that will promote air connectivity, as well as the romance and sports tourism, among others.
Semerena Martínez reported that, at the request of Mayor Renán Barrera, an approach was sought with different countries to create links in order to undertake concrete actions that continue to promote and position Mérida in the eyes of the world
“Without a doubt, the tourist market is a relevant space at the national level to draw up new projects, strengthen ties and develop and consolidate strategies that benefit our city,” he said.
Among the actions carried out, the signing of an intention between the municipalities of Mérida, Benito Juárez (Cancún), Querétaro and Guanajuato to promote the cities as romance tourism stands out; A letter of intent to collaborate with Monterrey was also signed to create economic development models.
Likewise, he highlighted that strategic alliances were established with the Mexican Sports Tourism Council (COMETUD), to attract high-impact sporting events to the city and with the Association of Hotels and Hostels of Valladolid, Yucatán, to develop strategies that benefit both municipalities. in terms of dissemination.
He indicated that in the area of strengthening air connectivity, it was agreed with the airlines Tag Airlines (Mérida-Guatemala-Flores route) and American Airlines (Merida-Miami-Dallas route) to explore new work strategies for the joint promotion of Mérida and Yucatan to expand or create new routes.
Finally, an exchange of information was arranged with the Enjoy Travel Group Company, represented by Armando Bojórquez, to find out the data and figures of European passengers arriving in Mérida and, based on this, promote the multi-destination air route between Mérida and Spain.
