Migrant crisis in Mexico hurts AMLO’s popularity, according to Consulta Mitofsky

Incidents of migrants losing their lives have become more common. Border states, while promising to shelter Central Americans and offer them care on their way to the United States, the mission has been disrupted from Mexico.

Truckloads of migrants, kidnappings, rampant trafficking, situations like the one in Ciudad Juarez, where more than 40 people lost their lives after a fierce fire, and the recent kidnapping of more than 100 in San Luis Potosi, have reduced the popularity of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

This was revealed by Consulta Mitofsky in a recent analysis, where it reveals that, added to the nationalization of 13 plants of the energy company Iberdrola, AMLO lost 4 points of his score in the last six weeks, giving a result below 60 percent.

“When it comes to approval, the data is that the Ciudad Juarez issue so far has cost the president 2 points of approval. This is no small thing, it is approximately 1 million 900 thousand people who have changed their opinion. And in six weeks he has dropped 4 points,” said Roy Campos, president of the consulting firm.

Although Obrador is “well evaluated”, says the expert, criticisms have rained down on him regarding the migratory crisis, as well as the fentanyl trafficking, where the governments of the United States and China have also expressed their opinion.

“Let’s say that he is not on a good run, it is not that he is badly evaluated, he is well evaluated, because 60, 59 percent still approve of him, but he has dropped 4 points in 6 weeks. This is an important report,” said the director of Consulta Mitofsky.

The numbers are positioned to drop when a new project of AMLO’s takes rigor, as it was in the case of restrictions on the exhibition and sale of cigarettes, and their consumption in most of the establishments.

However, it has been his second best level of 2023. On March 1, his approval rating was over 63 percent, then, on the tenth day of the month, it dropped to 62.2. This morning, he scored 58.9.

Criticism continues and they claim that the published numbers are not correct. These things are terrible.
