The head of the Secretariat of Culture and Arts of Yucatan (Sedeculta), Loreto Villanueva Trujillo, confirmed that the first artistic exhibits have already been installed in the galleries of the “José Peón Contreras” theater, after this building remained closed since being damaged by fire at the end of last year.
In an interview, the state official indicated that exhibits were installed inside the venue, whose main sector is still closed.
“We are going to soon open the other gallery. Not completely, but we will have a very good work by Luis Carreón, and we also have one by Fabricio Vanderbrook, which is for children,” explained the official.
She stated that the rescue work in this venue continues, which is being carried out in coordination with INAH specialists, with the objective of rescuing the affected spaces to reopen the building this year.
“We are doing well, working with INAH, and INAH mainly determines the timeline,” she said.
According to INAH, the second stage of rescuing the theater involves restoration and conservation actions in the lobby of the central access to the venue, while the grand hall and the muses mural would be the last stage.
