With a workshop and a virtual seminar, the Toh 2023 Bird Festival begins this Thursday in Yucatan, which aims to position the state as a nature tourism destination based on the observation of local and migratory species.
This series of events that will take place during eight months, promotes the appreciation of the rich diversity of the more than 400 species of birds present in the state, create awareness and pride among the local population, promote a conservationist culture among tour operators, in a joint effort with the private sector, NGOs, government and community.
During this Friday the festival will include the workshop “Flora and Birds” and the virtual seminar “The Birds of the Mayab”, which will be given by CICY and the Union of Cooperatives Co’ox Mayab, respectively. The first activity will take place on the Mapsa grounds, while the second will be broadcast live on the Festival de las Aves Facebook account.
On April 19 there will also be the webinar “Fantastic birds and where to find them, the case of the avifauna in the Cuxtal Ecological Reserve” and on April 22 the workshop “Hummingbird Gardens”, followed by the Drawing Contest “Towards the Bird Festival 2023”, in Celestún, from 25 to 30 and the Workshop for children on birds and the Mayan house, on the 30th.
In May the activities will continue with the Festival “Entre alas, patas, picos, plumas y otras aves del Centenario de Mérida”, the Biciruta pajarera in El Cuyo, the shorebird workshop in the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, and the Caribbean Flamingo Conservation Workshop in Celestún.
During June and July there will be activities such as the “Bird Trafficking” conference, the “Citizen Science and Birds” workshop, and the Conservatory on photography with Nelly Quijano “Nativa”.
In August will be the opening of the photo and drawing contest “United for the Birds”. The Pajareada at the Roger Orellana Regional Botanical Garden of CICY and the Conversatory on bird photography with Ore Jimenez.
In September and October the Toh Bird Festival continues with a Flamingo Banding in Ría Lagartos, a Conversation on Flamingo Photography with Fernanda Linage, the Birdwatching Rally in state ANP and a Bird Camp in the UMA of San Manuel, in El Cuyo.
Finally, in November there will be a Children’s Painting Workshop: From Garden to Paper at CICY and an exhibition of the winning entries in the “United for Birds” contest.

The Festival of the Birds toh 2023 begins this Friday
The Bird Festival will also feature birding tours in different municipalities of Yucatán. The first will take place in Sisal on April 30, followed by Progreso on May 7, as well as the Amazili Reserve and Ría Lagartos on May 13.
The observation tours will continue on June 25 in the Cuxtal Ecological Reserve and on August 20 in Sierra Papacal and Chuburna, while on September 24 it will take place in Celestun.

Finally, bird watching will conclude on October 8 with visits to Isla Cerritos, in San Felipe, and on October 14 and 15 in Tekax.
