Travel agencies launch strategy to avoid tourist frauds

Through the Cancun Fun Day and Night campaign, almost four thousand travel agencies will market complete tourist packages, a measure with which they seek to reduce the cases of fraud that occur when visitors purchase recreational activities with “dummy” companies or even those that do not exist in the destination.

José Moreno, president of the Mexican Tourism Bureau, said that the purpose of the campaign is to market a complete package with activities and not just the airplane and hotel through its member travel agencies.

This, carried out through commercial alliances of Quintana Roo companies; will guarantee that tourists in Cancun will not be victims of “dummy” companies.

“We want to close the gap of frauds, especially those who buy online, and when they arrive at the destination they realize that the company did not exist, which affects their vacations but also the image of the destination”.

He said that the bureau has a presence in the United States with close to 1,400 travel agencies, as well as in Europe and Africa, who will also be contacted by nightclub, tour and activity companies to be able to market a complete experience to their clients.

The campaign was planned two years ago, however, due to the pandemic, it could not be carried out. That is why until now it is being launched to give more confidence to the tourists that visit Cancun, in addition to the fact that it allows a greater economic benefit for the destination.

Therefore, alliances were signed with different companies in the region with which we will work so that visitors -especially nationals who buy their packages to Quintana Roo- can have a complete experience from the moment they buy their package and thus ensure that they will not be disappointed when they arrive at the destination.

The state, being one of the most visited destinations, is the one with more cases of fraud, especially to the detriment of those who buy through digital agencies.

Consequently, with the support of the associations, they seek to stop this type of agencies.
