On Wednesday, the body of the 45-year-old businessman Jorge Martín Vales was found inside his ranch near the Yalcobá community, in the municipality of Valladolid. The body was found with gunshot wounds, and preliminary reports suggest that the man may have taken his own life.

According to preliminary reports, Jorge, originally from Tizimín and grandson of the former mayor of that town, was the administrator of a construction materials store. On Wednesday, he left his home to go to his ranch, and no further information was received from the businessman after that. It was not until noon that day that a cowboy arrived at the ranch and found the body lying there.

The cowboy found the body lying in a pool of blood, and unofficial reports indicate that Jorge had gunshot wounds and may have taken his own life.

State Investigation Police officers arrived at the scene and quickly cordoned off the area and closed access to it. It was reported that the white truck that belonged to the businessman was still inside the ranch. Jorge is survived by his 18- and 15-year-old children.
