On Monday, May 1st, police officers who were alerted by a citizen running along the Malecón saved the life of a man who was floating in the sea. They applied first aid, making him react. Moments later, paramedics stabilized him and took him to the General Hospital.

Minutes after five o’clock yesterday morning, a citizen who went out to exercise with his pet along the Rafael E. Melgar Malecón, between streets three and five, noticed a person floating face down in the water. He immediately tried to call the emergency number 911, but after several calls, no one answered.

At that moment, he saw a patrol approaching, so he signaled to them with his hands and indicated that there was a person floating in that beach area. Two officers got out while the driver requested an ambulance. The officers entered the sea to rescue the person, who was unconscious. After several minutes, they managed to pull him out and one of the officers immediately applied first aid.

The officer managed to make the person react by expelling water from his mouth and gradually resuming breathing.

A few minutes later, an ambulance arrived at the scene and paramedics worked to stabilize the person before transporting him to the General Hospital.

It is noteworthy that despite the fact that police officers do not have the necessary tools to act in these cases, the quick response of those who responded to the report, in addition to their training in first aid, was crucial in saving this person’s life.

According to the information provided, it is unknown why the person was in that condition in the sea since he refused to give any information. In addition, he had no identification that would allow them to know his data. It was reported that the man, between 30 and 35 years old, is stable and out of danger.
